Online shopping mistakes that increase final cost

A checklist for avoiding expensive surprises when ordering online.

Mistake 1: comparing only the product price

The most common mistake is looking only at the product price. A $50 item may look cheaper than a local alternative, but delivery, billable weight and possible customs-related expenses can change the final decision.

Mistake 2: ignoring parcel size

Many shoppers check the product weight but ignore dimensions. A light item in a large box can be billed by volumetric weight. This often happens with shoes, toys, lamps, decorative items, bags and household goods.

Mistake 3: missing invoices

Invoices, order confirmations and tracking details are important. If a carrier asks for proof of value or product details, clear documents make the process easier.

Mistake 4: choosing the first carrier

Different carriers may have different tariffs, minimum charges, delivery times and volumetric weight policies. Before ordering a heavy or bulky item, compare at least two options.
